Coconut Seedling

HCIL’s coconut nursery program is a cornerstone of its agricultural initiatives. Producing over 206,000 seedlings annually, the operation is widely considered among the most productive in the Caribbean

These seedlings are grown through a decentralized network of nurseries and distributed across Guyana, supporting national efforts to scale coconut cultivation, enhance farmer income streams, and support downstream value-added ventures

Cash Crops

Spanning approximately 1,228–1,300 acres, HCIL’s cash crop program engages about 300 tenant farmers in the production of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and other high-value crops

Supported by drip irrigation, shade houses, and technical mentorship, farmers access a landing depot on-site to showcase produce to wholesalers and distributors, facilitating effective market linkages and enhancing profitability

The Rural Women of Hope Estate initiative, part of this program, empowers women with training and tools for hydroponics, shade house cropping, and youth-focused agricultural innovation

Rice Cultivation

HCIL dedicates roughly 860–971 acres to rice farming, managed by about 31–32 tenant farmers who benefit from robust drainage and irrigation systems maintained by the estate

With government-led enhancements and infrastructure upgrades, rice yields have risen significantly—as national average yields climbed from 5.7 tons/ha in 2020 to 6.6 tons/ha in 2024—ensuring consistent, high-volume harvests suitable for both local consumption and export markets

Livestock & Animal Husbandry

HCIL reserves about 200 acres of its land for livestock operations, including cattle, pigs, and goats. These systems are integrated into the estate’s broader sustainability model, using manure and waste to enrich soil fertility and boost crop production

Livestock management is supported through extension services, training workshops, pasture improvements, and low-cost equipment rental—making it a key support pillar for tenant farmers seeking diversified income sources
